    ---
Below please find some detailed information on the application procedure. We apologize for answering with a standardized reply, but with the great number of requests it is the only way to do it. Please check your original text at the end of this message.

Please see our homepage at Åbo Akademi - Admission for information on admission and studies.

Åbo Akademi University has 7 faculties:
    - Faculty of Arts
    - Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
    - Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences
    - Faculty of Technology
    - Faculty of Theology
    - Faculty of Education
    - Faculty of Social and Caring Sciences

The main language of instruction at Åbo Akademi University is Swedish. At the moment Åbo Akademi University also offers some English-language master's degree programmes and some possibilities to undertake regular master-level studies with English as the language of instruction.

The Master's Degree Programmes where English is the language of instruction are:
    - Master's Degree Programme in Electronic and Mobile Commerce
    - Master's Degree Programme in Chemical Engineering
    - Master’s Degree Programme in International Human Rights Law

As a prerequisite for admission, you need to fulfil the academic requirements which vary between programmes. It is therefore very important that you read through the specific information regarding the programme that you are interested in. Some faculties and degree programmes require knowledge of Swedish language while it is possible to apply to other programmes on the basis of English language. In those areas where Swedish is not a prerequisite students learn Swedish during their first academic year (except for those programmes where the language of instruction is English).

If you do not know Swedish you need to prove your level of English through one of the following language tests: TOEFL, IELTS, CAE or CPE. If you reside permanently in Finland you can also take a test arranged by Åbo Akademi University.

There are no tuition fees in Finland, but you need to be a member of the Student Union. The annual Student Union fee is 96 euro, Åbo Akademis Studentkår.

Living expenses in Finland are approx. 450-650 Euro. The university does *not* offer any scholarships.

    THE A D M I S S I O N PROCESS

    Step 1:
Please read through the information available on our web site Åbo Akademi - Admission. It is also possible to request information by completing the request form for application material available on the pages. It is not possible to request any application material between mid-March and December.

    Step 2:
Fill in the application form and send it along with your secondary school certificates and university transcripts and bachelor's degree certificate (when required), a motivation letter (attach a short CV to the motivation letter) and a copy of your passport to the international office (address available on the application form) before the application deadline.

We also need one of the following English language tests: TOEFL, IELTS, CAE or CPE. The result has to be sent to us directly by the testing agency. Please sign up for the test as early as possible. In order for your application to be able to be processed you need to do the test before the application deadline. Also note that it might take several weeks for the results to reach us.

    Step 3:
Wait for the response from the Admission Office. Please do not ask about the status of your application. All received applications will receive an answer, positive or negative by regular mail when the decision on admission has been made (if your address for some reason changes, please inform us of this immediately).

    Step 4:
If you are admitted to your chosen programme, please prepare yourself to start your studies in the end of August. In most cases this means that you need to apply for a residence permit from the Finnish embassy closest to you. It is essential that you take part in the orientation course for international degree students arranged in August.

For more information please see Åbo Akademi - Admission.
